Resource: Social Advocates for Youth
Social Advocates for Youth is one my favorite non-profit organizations in Sonoma County.
They have been doing amazing work for over 46 years to support and strengthen the families in our community. Guilford Family Counseling supports them with volunteer hours and financial contributions.
SAY was established in 1971 by a group of compassionate Sonoma County leaders to provide a constructive alternative to juvenile hall for runaway youth. They have consistently worked to create innovative programs that break cycles of abuse and hopelessness.
They provide services in three key areas: housing, counseling & careers. The main goal is to empower youth who are stable and able to rise to life’s challenges and opportunities.
I want to highlight a few key programs that you should know about.
Dr. Coffee Teen Shelter
The teen shelter is open 24 hours a day throughout the year. They provide a safe place for teens to go when they are having conflict with their families or just don’t have anywhere to go. The trained staff provide crisis counseling and work to reconnect the youth with their family as well as other supportive services. They also have a 24-hour emergency hotline: (888) 729-0012. You can find more details on their website right HERE.
MediCal Counseling Clinic
SAY provides free counseling for youth ages 5-25 and their families through their MediCal counseling clinic. They have a stellar group of well-trained therapists who are equipped to provide a range of mental health services, including individual therapy, family therapy, play therapy and sand tray therapy for younger kids. The therapists also provide counseling on many of the Santa Rosa City Schools campuses. The counseling clinic is a tremendous community resource. You can call them directly at (707) 544-3299 x237 or find more info on their website right HERE.
SAY Finley Dream Center
The SAY Finley Dream Center is kind of a magical place that brings together all the services of the organization. Through a generous gift of a hospital building from Sutter Health, SAY was able to create a centralized campus that is both beautiful and functional. This includes the counseling clinic, career & life readiness services, short-term and affordable housing, an emergency shelter and even the CERES community cafe, which has some delicious food.
I encourage you to get in touch with SAY if you or someone you love needs help with housing, counseling or careers.
